Mississauga Hospice to receive pro bono communications and marketing services to help more families through end-of-life care.

Toronto, Ontario, December 7, 2022 – Today Curious Public announced its partnership with Heart House Hospice through Uplift, the firm’s annual pro bono communications services program.

Through the partnership, Curious Public will work with Heart House to help the organization execute its strategic communications plan across digital channels, improve its brand message and storytelling, and support a capital campaign for a new hospice facility.

“Dying is a social event with a medical component. We will all go through it, directly and indirectly, and yet it is a topic and experience we go to great lengths to avoid,” said Kitrina Fex, Executive Director, Heart House Hospice. “Hospices play an important community role, medically and socially, and yet many people do not fully understand their place. Focused communications and marketing support will help advance Heart House Hospice’s goal to support more patients and their loved ones through end-of-life care.”

Heart House Hospice has supported people with terminal diagnoses and their friends and families in Mississauga and Brampton since 1985. The hospice’s team of health care professionals, support workers, and trained volunteers ensure people live their final days with grace and dignity – offering spiritual support, wellness treatments, and bereavement counselling. Heart House is one of the few hospice organizations that offer specialized programs for children living in a home where someone they love is dying or has died.

“We’re honoured to partner with Heart House Hospice for this year’s Uplift. We welcome the chance to help them get the word out about the wraparound supports they provide to their community. Together, we’ll ensure Heart House Hospice will be able to help more people have important conversations around death and dying. We’re grateful to be starting this work with them.” – Lloyd Rang, President, Curious Public.

Through Uplift, Curious Public will help the Mississauga hospice execute a strategic communications plan with a primary focus on increasing engagement across all digital channels and advance its advocacy, outreach, and fundraising goals through refreshed brand messaging and storytelling. Curious Public will also give communications and marketing support towards a capital campaign for Heart House Hospice to build Mississauga’s first Hospice Centre facility, initially made possible by Trillium Health Partners and generous donations from the Welton family.

Curious Public’s Uplift is in its fourth year of supporting a non-profit or NGO from the Greater Toronto or Vancouver area with pro bono communications and marketing support. Past recipients include Learning for Sustainable a Future, Urban Alliance on Race Relations and the
Scarborough Women’s Centre.

Lynda Kosowan, Executive Director of the Scarborough Women’s Centre and 2020 Uplift recipient said of their experience, “Curious Public didn’t just provide us with a cookie-cutter solution. They really took the time to understand us, and our challenges and also the good things we already have going for us to help highlight those.”

Curious Public and Heart House have already begun their work together with Senior Consultant and Writer, Kristen Gross leading the project.

“Working with an organization like Curious Public that values giving back is meaningful and I’m excited that in this case, I’ll have the chance to apply my professional skills in an area I consider deeply important,” she said. “When we take the time to understand how we would like to experience death and dying, it helps to inform how we would like to live. I’m grateful for the opportunity to spend time helping Heart House Hospice do this important work.”

Applications for Uplift 2024 will be available in the summer of 2023.
