Applications Are Now Open for Curious Public’s 2nd Annual James Bullbrook Memorial Scholarship

Award would help send a young person to Woodward Skateboard Camp

Toronto, Ontario, January 25, 2024 – Curious Public announced today that applications are open for its second annual James Bullbrook Memorial Scholarship; a $500 US award to be used towards a session at Camp Woodward PA, in honour of our late friend and colleague, James Bullbrook

“I feel very lucky to be able to share the gift of skateboarding with the help of my dad’s friends for the second year,” said Richie Bullbrook. “Woodward is one of my favourite memories with my father, and I hope this scholarship allows someone else to make memories that last a lifetime.”

In its first year, 16-year-old Zoe Zollinger from Nanaimo BC was the recipient. In her application, she said, “Nothing challenges me more than skateboarding and nothing brings me more happiness than skateboarding. It has also been a way for me and my mom to bond even more. She’s been with me the whole way.” The spirit of families supporting the passion and dreams of the next generation is one of our favourite themes of this memorial honouring James, and Richie.

“I feel very lucky to be able to share the gift of skateboarding with the help of my dad’s friends for the second year,” said Richie Bullbrook. “Woodward is one of my favourite memories with my father, and I hope this scholarship allows someone else to make memories that last a lifetime.”

Skaters interested in the James Bullbrook Memorial Scholarship should apply by April 30, 2024. Recipients need to be residents of Canada, and aged 7–17 as of January 1, 2024. The scholarship fund must be used in the same year it is awarded. Curious Public is also proud to have the support of Canada Skateboard. Formed in 2016, Canada Skateboard is the National Sport Federation for skateboarding in Canada. Its mission is to support, promote and grow skateboarding in Canada.

“Canada Skateboard is proud to support Canadian skateboarders through our partnership with the James Bullbrook Memorial Scholarship, offering 500 USD for young skateboarding talents,” said Hagan McCreath, Executive Director, Canada Skateboard. “This initiative honours James Bullbrook’s legacy, providing a unique opportunity to attend Woodward Skateboarding Camp in the summer of 2024. Embrace this chance to elevate your skills and be part of our commitment to fostering the future of Canadian skateboarding.”

“Last year, Zoe impressed all of us with her determination and dedication to the sport – and we can’t wait to review applications for other amazing young skaters again,” said Lloyd Rang, President, of Curious Public. “I know that our friend James would be incredibly pleased that his love for Richie – and that his son’s incredible talent – are celebrated once a year in this way.”
